Pier E Port of Long Beach
Herzog is the managing partner in a joint venture expanding the on-dock rail yard capacity for the Port of Long Beach. The project is divided into two phases. For phase one, we constructed seven railroad tracks totaling 9,103 track feet, 420 track feet of grade crossings, eight turnouts, seven derails, and bumping posts. Our team constructed 32 crane rails and automated stacking crane foundations totaling 38,900 linear feet with additional work including roller compacted concrete, drainage structures, utilities, and site demolition and grading. During phase two improvements, we connected the Pier E terminal to the Pier F container terminal by filling an additional 40 acres of Slip 1. The team expanded the on-dock rail yard from 10,000 linear feet to 75,000 from the existing 294 acres. The project created one consolidated 304-acre container terminal, which includes 55 acres of newly created land.
