Rail Runner Phase II Design-Build

Herzog was a joint venture partner for the prime contract of the Rail Runner commuter rail extension. We worked to construct this design-build project to extend the rail service from Albuquerque to Santa Fe, New Mexico. Significant project features included 18 miles of new track, six track bridges, six load transfer structures, five concrete boxes for rail which are unique cut and cover tunnels, one highway bridge, and installation of facilities to support follow-on installation of signal and grade crossing systems. Through innovations developed during the bid, design and construction phase, our team established a cost effective design well under the owner’s budget.

  • Location: Albuquerque, New Mexico
  • Owner: New Mexico DOT
  • Cost: $128 million
  • Completion: 2008
  • System Type: Commuter Rail
